About

Charlotte

Charlotte Whittle is a Jugendlich Dramatic Soprano from the Kingdom of Fife in Scotland.

Charlotte received her Bachelor of Music degree in Voice at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and then went on to study singing with international dramatic soprano Vera Wenkert, founder of the Institut Stimmkunst in Zürich, Switzerland. There, Charlotte received a scholarship for “outstanding talent” to study at the Stimmkunst Opera Studio where she has sang in many scenic performances the roles of Elisabeth (Tannhäuser), Sieglinde (Die Walküre), Senta (Der fliegende Holländer), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni) and Leonora (Il Trovatore). On the concert platform, Charlotte has sang in Zürich excerpts as Agathe (Der Freischütz), Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus), Woglinde (Das Rhinegold), in Konstanz as Amelia (Un Ballo in Maschera), in Dublin as Elsa (Lohengrin) and in St Andrews as Elettra (Idomeneo) and First Lady (Die Zauberflöte) with the Heisenberg Ensemble. Charlotte made her debut with Cardiff Opera in November 2023 as Third Norn and Gutrune in Götterdämmerung, and recently sang the role of Donna Elvira in a production with Bath Opera. She has performed at the Edinburgh International Festival with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Crail Festival and Largo Arts Week.

Charlotte has worked on her repertoire with Thomas Barthel (Zürich Opera House), Yulia Levin (Zürich Opera House), international coach Ann Beckman and conductor Anthony Negus. As a recitalist, Charlotte has sang in the Zunfthaus zur Waag, Stirling Castle, St Giles Cathedral, St Salvators, Bristol Cathedral and Bath Abbey, and on stages such as the Usher Hall, Edinburgh Festival Theatre, Glasgow Royal and Byre Theatre.

Charlotte has a passion for fundraising and has organised and sung in concerts for the British Lung Foundation and Marie Curie Cancer Care.

At the St Andrews Byre Theatre Charlotte sang alongside actor Alan Cumming to raise funds for the Neurosurgery Department at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

Charlotte is a firm believer in the importance of giving back to the community as she feels these small acts of kindness help to make the world a better place. She believes that music combined with a good heart has the power to do this.

“I have instructed Charlotte as her vocal coach for the last 5 years. During this time she has made the most amazing transformation to a very fine Jugendlich Dramatic Soprano. The voice is shimmering and beautiful and powerful. This voice rides effortlessly over a large orchestra. Her acting ability is very unique and she has a real sense of drama and the character. Charlotte is a very kind person and a favourite among her colleagues.”

“Charlotte Whittle is an exciting young soprano, an intelligent musician with an immediately attractive personality and natural stage presence.  The voice is ample — generous, flexible and expressive — and luminously beautiful.  I look forward to following her career!”

Ann Beckman

“Charlotte Whittle is an energetic and committed singer/actress, with a beautiful, honey-coloured jugendlich-dramatic soprano sound. She is highly engaged in her performances and shares herself generously with her audiences!”

Thomas Barthel

“Charlotte is a great young talent who lights up the stage. Her energy is infectious, while her voice tone and musicality are superb. A concert featuring Charlotte is always a treat to look forward to. She has a great career ahead of her and I can’t wait to hear more.”
